IT COSMETICS | Confidence Skincare

REVIEW | AFFILIATE LINKS

IT Cosmetics is founded on the idea that your beauty deserves hard working, scientifically researched and results based ingredients. You’ll often find owner Jamie doing amazing on-air demonstrations on QVC (I’m completely a closet addict) and I see the brand as a more modern, green juice drinking version of Clinique. I’ve recently had the opportunity to try out the set of their Confidence Skincare* which boasts their clinically researched Anti-Aging Armour Rejuvenating Concentrate which contains a variety of collagen, peptides, oils and vitamins across all their products.

IT Cosmetics says: A skin transforming hydrating cleansing serum which contains hyaluronic acid to sooth and moisturize but will also take off your waterproof makeup in a pinch
A very likeable non-foaming / very light foaming cleanser that I prefer to use in the morning because it feels comfortable and easy on the skin. While I don’t find it drying, I also don’t find it particularly hydrating but this may vary depending on your skin type. Running through all three products is a light citrus scent which is evident by the various natural oils in this concoction. I do think it leaves my skin clean although I still don’t feel completely assured using this to remove my makeup. The effect and after-feel is comparable to something like Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel – well balanced and comfortable. Now the real question is, do we really need such an expansive ingredients list for a cleanser when most people only spend 30 seconds washing their face? You decide.

IT Cosmetics says: Transforming moisturizing super cream for rejuvenating skin everywhere
Having used face creams from a wide range of brands and price points, I can say straight away that I think this formulation is very reasonable value for money when factoring in ingredients and the overall feel of the product. This, in short, is what IT Cosmetics considers its do-it-all super cream that took 7 years to bring out. The application and texture reminds me of the Fresh Crème Ancienne in the sense it was thick and dense in the jar yet sat comfortable and non-greasy on the skin. The dry down is great for smoothing out the skin for foundation and I suspect that it’ll still be fresh enough for summer so I plan on finishing up the jar. If you have combination skin this would be very ideal. When it comes down to the boasted skincare effects, I must say that I don’t think I am the best person to test its results as anti-aging isn’t my major concern at the moment. While preventative care is always recommended, my major skin struggles are still large pores and skin texture issues more so than wrinkles. I can say that when used consistently, I found my skin to look plump and refreshed even when I definitely don’t feel that way on the inside.

CONFIDENCE IN AN EYE CREAM*

IT Cosmetics says: Brightens, repairs and transforms, this day to night eye cream will do it all from minimizing darkness to banishing wrinkles.
As with the moisturizer, the texture of this eye cream is a big winner for me. Its very lightweight and silky plus leaves a slight sheen on the skin which I believe is what the brand claims as “brightening”. While I don’t think this would be sufficient moisture for the winter season, it’s perfectly balanced for summer and simply feels weightless on the skin. Results wise, I haven’t noticed any major improvement in undereye puffiness (which is my main concern) but it does seem to minimize fine dehydration lines at the outer corners. It’s definitely too soon for me to decide if this is a must-have product especially since I’m not a religious eye cream user so this is one that probably needs a second opinion.

THE FINAL VERDICT
Test period: 3 weeks

The IT Cosmetics Confidence Skincare range is a beautifully textured, easy to use collection that I would recommend if you are looking for powered up version of a minimal routine. Best suited for combination, slightly oily or slightly dry skin of any age range, there’s some impressive ingredients in each formulation with a focus on natural additives so do have a read if you know you’re reactive to anything specific. I haven’t experienced any sensitivity or negative reactions. For the money, I think the range is well priced and certainly more promisingly than a lot of other higher end and fancier packaged options. I personally didn’t see a huge anti-aging improvement but I also don’t have a lot of visible signs to treat in the first place and it’s not my current main skin concern. It would be something I’d consider as preventive skincare if you’re similar to my skin age.

ANASTASIA | Mario Master Palette – Instagram made me buy it

It doesn’t happen often but once in a while I fall hard for a makeup palette and this time around it caught me completely off guard. I first peeped this Anastasia collaboration with Makeup by Mario on Instagram and was instantly drawn to the gorgeous array of jewel toned neutrals. In fact, despite being the hand behind ultra glam celebrities, I had a new found respect for his work after reading an interview in InStyle in which Mario talked about the need to separate TV makeup from the everyday – the man has a good grip on reality and I adore that!

By no means is there any shortage of brown eye shadow in my collection yet this one looked so rich and inviting. It certainly leans towards a more medium to deeper skin tones if you want to wear this as a daily neutral but I’m hoping a lighter hand would make this everyday appropriate for me as well. A perfectly paired colourful palette for a neutral lover; I can’t wait to dig into this one!

Well, this list looks pretty errr… impressive now doesn’t it? Really, I love a good Sephora order and if it wasn’t for the $50CAD free shipping minimum I’d be on there much too often. You’ve got those great, online exclusive products and little mini sets make luxury beauty a little more affordable for the cosmetically curious. Since two deals are better than one, I always try to double up on those exclusive sample codes for extra deluxe bobbles (Sephora is the only newsletter I always read in my inbox) that you can’t get in stores. At the moment, the new KatVonD concealer is up for grabs as well as a stash of Sunday Riley, Tata Harper and Tatcha samples. So what’s your shopping habit? Do you crave the instant satisfaction? Or do you hold out for a good online deal?

3 Things: Sephora VIB Spring Haul

Sephora VIB Sale Makeup
One of the best spring things to look forward to is definitely the bi-annual Sephora sale. Having spent an alarming amount of dollars in the past year at beauty heaven, I’ve recently been upgraded to VIB status (yes, a silver card!) which means a cushy 15% discount during sale week. Though I have a long rolling list of things on my wishlist, I decided to go with the frivolous wants and ended up with these 3 little beauties.
You’ll recognize the Laura Mercier Mineral Pressed Powder Foundation straight away as it received a glowing review from me just a few months ago. Indeed the medium coverage, smooth texture and skin enhancing effect is a rare gem in my powder collection and whilst the stores seems to have stopped stocking this, I was eager to get a lighter shade online. Pick it up if you see it because I have a feeling this is going to be discontinued in favour of their new (and more expensive) pressed powder foundation.
Now for the record, I’ve never actually owned a single Hourglass product (save for a little sample of their primer) and despite the hype all around the blogosphere I was just never completely convinced whenever I stopped by to swatch their compacts. But when the Ambient Strobing Powder series came out it was love at first swipe. Even though I’m not a meticulous contour and highlight fan, there is a truly special ethereal quality about the shimmer in this powder that reminds me of galactic stardust. It’s unlike anything I’ve seen before so of course the shade Brilliant went into my basket.
In the hair department, the Alterna Caviar CC Cream has been on my Sephora wishlist forever and I decided it was either now or never to finally try it out. The concept of a do-it-all product for hair sounds perfect for unskilled (and lazy) beauty lovers like me who want a polished look but who don’t have the finesse to put a lot of effort into hair styling. It’s formulated to provide manageability, shine, UV protection plus strengthen and moisturize hair; all while the extra hold formula locks the style in place. This particular version is new (and recommend for thick hair) but I also redeemed for a sample of the original and will report back on which one I liked better.
Did you splurge during the Sephora sale?

Highend Makeup Haul | Becca MUFE YSL MAC Laura Mericer

Chances are if you’ve been enjoying reading this blog, you probably also enjoy shopping. And from one shopaholic to another, there’s nothing more satisfying than ringing up that purchase you’ve been swatching for the last month and finally taking it home. Between trying, buying, returning and buying again, I’ve been in at the beauty shop way too many times this past while. Here’s the aftermath.

PRODUCTS MENTIONED
  • VICHY | Dermablend Corrective Foundation
  • TOOFACED | Born This Way Foundation
  • KAT VON D | Tattoo Concealer
  • MAC | Mineralize Concealer
  • SEPHORA | Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer
  • BECCA | Ombre Nude Eyes Shadow Palette
  • MAC | “Phloof” Eyeshadow
  • MAC | “Malt” Eyeshadow

  • TOOFACED | La Creme Lipstick “Taffy”
  • YSL | Touche Eclat Foundation
  • LAURA MERCIER | Lip Parfait Colourbalm
  • MAKE UP FOR EVER | Ultra HD Foundation*

Funnily as I’m was editing this video, I had a little giggle that I probably have enough foundations in my collection to last me for the next 10 years but hey, it’s perfectly okay to have the right one for each occasion! I’m also super thrilled with some of the new classic finds and especially can’t wait to dig my brush into that gorgeous Becca eye shadow palette. It looks like they’ve been hiding it on a random (bottom) shelf in some Sephoras but it’s most certainly worth the hunt.

Happy shopping,

SEPHORA | Ultimate Hair Essentials Kit is… everything.

Sephora Ultimate Hair Essentials

…and quite literally it is.
If there’s one thing I absolutely adore from the beauty heaven that is Sephora, it has to be their incredibly valued and awesomely curated favourites boxed sets. I’ve had a few of these over the years from seasonally themed to product themed and it’s a great way to try a hyped up item before committing to the full sized bottle. Importantly, products in here are usually travel sized versus true sample sizes so they allow me to get a real feel of how an item would fit into my beauty routine. (Doesn’t it drive you mad when you get single use samples that really tells you nothing?)
Sephora Ultimate Hair Essentials 2
Filled with 11 of their most coveted hair products, it has everything from treatment shampoos to smoothing oils and styling sprays. Seriously, how does one resist such a perfect box.
  • Wen by Chaz Dean | Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner – 2 oz
  • Alterna | CAVIAR Anti-Aging® Replenishing Moisture Shampoo – 1.35 oz
  • Alterna | CAVIAR Anti-Aging® Replenishing Moisture Conditioner – 1.35 oz
  • Living Proof | Prime Style Extender – 2 oz
  • Phyto | Huile Soyeuse Lightweight Hydrating Oil – 1 oz
  • Living Proof | Perfect Hair Day 5-in-1 Styling Treatment – 2 oz
  • Drybar | Hot Toddy Heat & UV Protectant – 1.7 oz
  • Bumble and Bumble | Thickening Hairspray – 2 oz
  • Living Proof | Flex Shaping Hairspray – 3 oz
  • Drybar | Triple Sec 3-in-1 – 1.67 oz
  • Bumble and Bumble | Prêt-à-Powder – 0.5 oz
Sephora Ultimate Hair Essentials 3
Still a bit of a hair novice, I actually do not have any doubles nor have even sampled any of these products but I’m sure this box will go a long way in building up my hair arsenal. In particular, the LIVING PROOF Perfect Hair Extender has been high on my Sephora wishlist for months now and this set actually preps with an entire 60ml to test. Now, if this Ultimate Hair Essentials Kit was in your hot little hands, which 3 products would you pop open first?
 Stay Beautiful.

Beauty News | Get the new face of Spring 2013

Beautysets - Spring Skin 2013

A new season means a new slew of products rolling out across the nation, this spring the focus is still on fresh ethereal natural looking skin and I’ve found a few products on Sephora that will get you there. When we’re talking fresh, healthy skin the first thing to take note is your skincare, Josie Maran has brought out yet another argan infused product, the Argan Cleansing Treatment which even has it’s own muslin cloth. It’s a balmy cream to oil formula that’s meant to massage, hydrate and declog pores. Moving on to your base and primer, DIOR has upgrade their Capture Total anti-aging line with a new Base de Teint SPF25 product and Tarte’s offering a new BB Tinted Treatment with SPF30 as well (the shades also look good on this!). For lovers of the cheeky brand TooFaced, they’ve switched things up a bit with a Air Buffed BB Creme which looks like it may be a moussey consistency, to be used with a buffing brush. Of course, no ethereal skin look is completely without some wonder lighting, here from Hourglass is their new Ambient Light Powder which comes in an impressive 6 shades from a lavender to a peach beige. Reviews on this has been glowing, quite literally and I’m stoked to give this a swatch next time I’m shopping.
