3 Things: Sephora VIB Spring Haul

Sephora VIB Sale Makeup
One of the best spring things to look forward to is definitely the bi-annual Sephora sale. Having spent an alarming amount of dollars in the past year at beauty heaven, I’ve recently been upgraded to VIB status (yes, a silver card!) which means a cushy 15% discount during sale week. Though I have a long rolling list of things on my wishlist, I decided to go with the frivolous wants and ended up with these 3 little beauties.
You’ll recognize the Laura Mercier Mineral Pressed Powder Foundation straight away as it received a glowing review from me just a few months ago. Indeed the medium coverage, smooth texture and skin enhancing effect is a rare gem in my powder collection and whilst the stores seems to have stopped stocking this, I was eager to get a lighter shade online. Pick it up if you see it because I have a feeling this is going to be discontinued in favour of their new (and more expensive) pressed powder foundation.
Now for the record, I’ve never actually owned a single Hourglass product (save for a little sample of their primer) and despite the hype all around the blogosphere I was just never completely convinced whenever I stopped by to swatch their compacts. But when the Ambient Strobing Powder series came out it was love at first swipe. Even though I’m not a meticulous contour and highlight fan, there is a truly special ethereal quality about the shimmer in this powder that reminds me of galactic stardust. It’s unlike anything I’ve seen before so of course the shade Brilliant went into my basket.
In the hair department, the Alterna Caviar CC Cream has been on my Sephora wishlist forever and I decided it was either now or never to finally try it out. The concept of a do-it-all product for hair sounds perfect for unskilled (and lazy) beauty lovers like me who want a polished look but who don’t have the finesse to put a lot of effort into hair styling. It’s formulated to provide manageability, shine, UV protection plus strengthen and moisturize hair; all while the extra hold formula locks the style in place. This particular version is new (and recommend for thick hair) but I also redeemed for a sample of the original and will report back on which one I liked better.
Did you splurge during the Sephora sale?

The sale on sale fashion haul

F21 Haul
What’s better than shopping during a sale?
… an additional 50%OFF sale items promo of course! That’s exactly what I chanced upon when strolling by the F21 shop last week. By now you’ve probably gathered that I shop at F21 quite often. And while the draw isn’t the crop tops or the slogan tees, I love the incredible variety they’ve got and I can often find a few classic things that suit my taste without breaking the wallet. This time around I’m completely thrilled with these purchases because there’s some fabulous textural fabrics here which will be so versatile.

F21 Suede Shift Dress

PAIRINGS: Black long sleeve, patterned tights in dark print, boots.

Let’s start off with one of my favourite things in the bag. The fashion fairies must have been looking out for me because I found this suede shift dress in exactly my size. It looked quite short on the model but since I’m a petite 5’2 this was a perfect short but not too short length for my frame. The style is a simple shift silhouette with side slit detailing and two large functional pockets. How will I clean it? I’ve got no idea but it was too good to pass up.

F21 Cropped Sweater

PAIRINGS: High waisted pencil skirt, cropped jeggings or cigarette trousers and pointed flats.

Now it’s rare that I ever buy 2 of anything but sometimes when the style and price come together harmoniously, you’ve just gotta go for the plunge. Being more full chested I never really liked the look of cropped items but my recent venture into pencil skirts really required some new tops. I tried on this cropped sweater with a high neck, nautical button detailing on the should and 3/4 length sleeves and instantly fell in love with the fit. The material had good stretch so the despite this being a size small, the horizontal stripes didn’t go wonky around my chest and entire feel was very vintage inspired with a touch of Parisian undertone. No more questions asked, I put both the white and navy version in my basket.

F21 Faux Leather

PAIRINGS: Cropped sweater / blouse, pumps.

A buttery finish in an A-line shape says sassy but sweet and this faux suede skirt is right on the money. While I’m still looking for the perfect leather/faux leather pencil skirt, I thought this was a less intimidating look and would be a nice casual variation. Pairing it with the cropped sweater and it was particularly charming. The soft shine and quality of the faux leather kept it modern.

F21 Fashion Haul Denim

PAIRINGS: Primsols / high boots, textured knit top.

Rounding things off is something not on sale but I thought was a great on-trend yet nostalgic piece that would be the perfect companion to some casual wear like spring knits and blouses. Can we say 90s revival? The denim a-line fringe skirt with exposed zip. Pockets? Check. Perfect waist fit? Check. Solid denim fabric? Check! I can see this being a frequently work item come spring and even into early summer. Cool sneakers, boots, wedge sandals or pumps, this is sure to become a staple piece for my wardrobe. And because it’s a medium weight denim (not a chambray), it can hold up to frequent wear.

What would you pair with these?
Stay stylish,

Haul: iHerb – Pacifica, ELF, Weleda

Ordering from iHerb for the first time?
 Gives you $5OFF*

New year means new products! I’ve been secretly stashing away the last few iHerb orders so I can put it together in this haul video. In the skincare department, it’s still all about keeping dry flakes at bay while the heater is blasting and I’ve finally gotten around to trying out the Weleda brand. Admittedly, the cute metal tubes did play a role in this purchase but many great things have also been said about their products and there’s such a wide selection of skin and body care to choose from. Makeup wise I’m still looking for the best “no makeup” makeup selection with pinky nude hues and products that I can put on with minimal mirror effort. That being said, I’m off to test out this Pacifica 7-Free nail polish…

Good night,

 * This post contains an iHerb rewards code that I was given upon my introduction as a first time customer. When used by other first time customers, I gain rewards points which can be redeemed towards my own next purchase for a limited time. This “cash back” reward comes from iHerb’s own marketing budget, not from your order.

Fashion Haul | The New Classics

My new wardrobe selection is really coming together and I’m so thrilled about it the last few months. I’ve been culling slowly (goodbye frumpy sweatpants) and it’s so nice not to have so many “I don’t know what to wear” days. And while there’s been a lot of window shopping and online browsing, it was important to me to only buy the things that will serve multiple purposes in my life and have that classic appeal at the same time without breaking the bank. Here’s some of my latest finds.
  • H&M | Square Multi-Scarf | Website
  • H&M | Kitten Heel
  • H&M | Leather Belt with detail (small)
  • RW&CO. | Reversible Camisole (small) | Website
  • NINE WEST | Elicia T-Strap Low Block Heel | The Bay
My closet organization still needs some final touches but that will be helped along since I finally have a new sewing machine to work with. I’m thinking some fabric basket liners and more velvet hangers…
Stay Classy.

Highend Makeup Haul | Becca MUFE YSL MAC Laura Mericer

Chances are if you’ve been enjoying reading this blog, you probably also enjoy shopping. And from one shopaholic to another, there’s nothing more satisfying than ringing up that purchase you’ve been swatching for the last month and finally taking it home. Between trying, buying, returning and buying again, I’ve been in at the beauty shop way too many times this past while. Here’s the aftermath.

  • VICHY | Dermablend Corrective Foundation
  • TOOFACED | Born This Way Foundation
  • KAT VON D | Tattoo Concealer
  • MAC | Mineralize Concealer
  • SEPHORA | Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer
  • BECCA | Ombre Nude Eyes Shadow Palette
  • MAC | “Phloof” Eyeshadow
  • MAC | “Malt” Eyeshadow
  • MAC | “Peaches” Blush
  • MAC | “Groundwork” Paintpot
  • TOOFACED | La Creme Lipstick “Taffy”
  • YSL | Touche Eclat Foundation
  • LAURA MERCIER | Lip Parfait Colourbalm
  • MAKE UP FOR EVER | Ultra HD Foundation*

Funnily as I’m was editing this video, I had a little giggle that I probably have enough foundations in my collection to last me for the next 10 years but hey, it’s perfectly okay to have the right one for each occasion! I’m also super thrilled with some of the new classic finds and especially can’t wait to dig my brush into that gorgeous Becca eye shadow palette. It looks like they’ve been hiding it on a random (bottom) shelf in some Sephoras but it’s most certainly worth the hunt.

Happy shopping,

When in America | Mini Beauty Pickups

AquaNet-Nail Dryer-Clinque Super Moisture
One of the great hidden advantages to living in Vancouver is the completely doable travel distance to the USA. Why does this need to be highlighted you ask? Well… when in America, you buy all the things that we don’t have access to at home. Simple things like hitting up Walmart all of a sudden becomes an adventure worth the trek down the I-5, traffic and all.

Last weekend ended up with a trip to Seattle Premium Outlets via the lure of summer sales (which is another post altogether) and of course a stop by the Cosmetic Company Outlet; a Estee Lauder owned establishment which sells overstock, limited edition or discontinued EL aggregate branded products. I was dabbling in the Bobbi Brown and Ojion products when I suddenly spotted it out of the corner of my eye…the Clinique Super Moisture Makeup! Years ago, before glowy skin became trendy, this was my favourite illuminating foundation and somehow it had fallen off the shelves, never to be spotted again in stores. With this safely stashed in my shopping bag, I strolled down the Walmart beauty aisle looking for special releases and odd finds. The result was this adorably kitsch bottle of AquaNet Hairspray (I heard this was a total 80s craze) along with the ONYX Nail Dryer Spray; both amazingly affordable! Never underestimate the excitement that the rarity of an item can add to its allure. I can’t wait to put these to the test.

Stay Beautiful.

Shoe Haul | Work + Casual Style

Who knew the things you put on your feet can ever be quite so interesting. The past few weeks yeilded a goldmine in awesomely affordable, everyday style shoes. On a side note, lets not confuse everyday with boring because I think there are time where a shoe should shine on it’s own and a time where it should play a supporting role to your amazing wardrobe. And guess what? They’re all totally walkable.

I’m really thrilled about welcoming these lovelies to my closet; it’s been far too long that I’ve purchased shoes that were both functional and pretty all at once and of course, you can’t beat the thrill of a sale. In the bigger picture though, this shopping extravaganza lately is part of my Wardrobe Architect Project and I’ve been working hard on purging the old and re-consolidating a closet of things that make me smile. Interestingly, the weather is now full blown rain as I’m typing this post and it seems like I didn’t quite get any rain appropriate footwear….
Happy Shoe Hunting.
