Review: SLEEK | Day vs. Night Shadow Palettes + Look

SLEEK Makeup Eyeshadow Palette
I love the idea of functional eyeshadow palettes – ones that know exactly who they are and help you tackle the day with purpose. SLEEK Makeup, has done up its popular shadow palettes in a corresponding pair for anything daily life can throw at you. A New Day and All Night Long both feature a selection of neutral based shadows with pops of metallic shimmer each with with it’s own subtle twist.

Now of course this isn’t the first time you’ve seen SLEEK palettes on my blog. I’ve previous talked about some other collections but I thought we’d take a moment to really dive into the shadows solely, especially since they are such a fan favourite and there’s such a selection to choose from.
All variations of their i-Divine palettes come with 12 shades, a large mirrored flip top and a dual ended sponge applicator. Each pan is about 2cm in diameter which means its slim to tote around but large enough to dip a regular sized shadow brush inside. The black matte casing is very sturdy and the combination of colours and design means these end up being some my most carried travel palettes (feel free to swap out the the sponge for a real brush).

Laying them side by side, both Day and Night option have an array of lights and medium darks in soft satin and metallic finishes. All the shades swatch with good intensity but if you’re anything like me, the high shine metallics are what you’re going to dip into first. Long before most highend brands started putting out matte shadows, SLEEK was one of the first to even offer the choices plus at an affordable price and it was the matte shadows of choice for many. After working with a few of the palettes, I’m more inclined to call these soft mattes or satins. There’s a slight creaminess to them but they look more forgiving on the skin than true mattes shadows.
SLEEK Makeup A New Day Palette
A NEW DAY | “…an array of back to basics soft nudes, subtle golds and warm peach shades, perfect for chic daytime looks.”
These swatches were done with fingers and on un-primed skin. For best intensity I do recommend a sponge applicator, a very densely packed flat brush or your fingers. A soft fluffy brush seems to kick up a lot of powder with little colour payoff.
SLEEK Makeup All Night Long Palette
ALL NIGHT LONG | “…features a gorgeous cocktail of wearable nude shades: warm creams, soft golds and shimmery browns that will take you from dusk till dawn.”
If you do have oily eyelids, I highly recommend laying down a primer first as these aren’t the longest lasting shadows (plus it’ll help with colour payoff). I have no reservations wearing them on casual days for about 3-4 hours but after that it becomes rather unpredictable. Some days they are a little smudgey, other days they can power through to 5 or even almost 6 hours. Creasing is the most common issue so watch out for that.

But the biggest flaw of these SLEEK shadows? The formulation lacks t
he right type of blendability. The “matte” shades can be patchy and I find the rest of the shadows often blend into one singular muddy colour. It’s very hard to get defined colour placement and its a common problem I’ve had with affordable shadows that swatch well but just lack the performance of higher end products. With this being said, I try to stick to using only 1-2 colours from the palette and then mix in a better eyeshadow for definition. Again, this may not may not be a deal breaker depending on what you expect from your makeup and how you plan on wearing it.

The SLEEK i-Divine shadows offer a ton of colour combinations for a very affordable price. The sturdy packaging and the great selection of neutral colours makes them a perfect daily companion or for casual makeup days. Most of the shadows have good intensity but blendability can be spotty and some matte shades may be patchy. I think these are better than the average drugstore eyeshadow (especially in Canada) but they are not something I would rely on for a big event or a very long day. None the less, they are a good beginners palette and both A New Day and All Night Long offer a likeable spectrum of neutrals to get you started.

Good night,
