Review: OLAY | Fresh Effects Makeup Wipes

Step aside Neutrogena, there’s a new makeup wipe in my drawers and it’s working it’s way quickly into my daily routine. For those who’ve been following my skincare regime, you’ll have seen the iconic blue Neutrogena makeup removing wipes frequently but since giving these OLAY wipes a try, I can’t stop reaching for them.

Brand: OLAY
Product: Fresh Effects “S’wipe out!” Refreshing Makeup Removal Cloths*
Size: 20ct (20cm x 16 cm)
Price: $6-8 CAD
Availability: Drugstores nationwide
Details: Alcohol free, do contain fragrance (mild)

Would I (re)purchase: Yes, absolutely.

The Fresh Effects line focuses on clean, breathable, comfortable skin and is a range of simple everyday products for basic skincare. These wipes, which comes with 20 pre-moistened cloths per pack are smaller in count that your regular 30ct of the other popular brands but measuring a similar size per piece.

Soft to the touch and slightly quilted, I found one piece to be quite sufficient in removing a full face of makeup from long wearing foundation to my bright lipstick. Though they don’t seem very saturated at first, these alcohol free wipes did their makeup removing duties very effectively without leaving any residue behind. No sticky feeling, no extra wetness but a perfectly balanced yet fresh feel and no alcohol means no parched skin left behind. In fact, these are the only face wipes to date which I didn’t feel the need to rinse or moisturize my skin after use. They do contain a light scent which I found much more mild than most other brands but still worth noting if you do have super reactive skin.
A quick demonstration of its S’wipe Out powers, I have long wearing foundation, waterproof eye shadow, waterproof mascara and a lipstick swatched on my skin. One go took off a significant amount of makeup and with a few more everything was gone except for the mascara. I do also love that even with some vigorous scrubbing, the cloth did not fuzz, dry out or pill and stayed soft to the touch. Personally I do prefer to use my own separate eye makeup remover but on the occasion I tried with these wipes, something in the formulation did sting a little so I’d advise keeping them for the face only.

Altogether I am incredibly surprised at how effective these performed while still being very gentle on my skin. Even a friend with usually very reactive skin commented on how fresh and comfortable these felt. Seems like a winner all around and worth a spot in your beauty cabinet.
