Review: Alba Botanica | Sea Algae Enzyme Scrub

I’m a girl who loves a good scrub. Between all the AHA’s and BHA’s, sometimes all I want is a little grit to make my skin feel invigorated, smooth and refreshed. When it comes to natural exfoliators especially, it can be hard to find a balance between effectiveness and gentleness but I’ve got one here that will treat you right.

Alba Botanica’s Enzyme Scrub was an absolute blind purchase for me. While I’ve never tried anything from the brand before, the ingredients of a walnut shell powder scrub perked up my interest along with its plethora of natural plant extracts.

For those who can’t let go of their St. Ives, you know how addicting it can be and this formula is even better. Very finely ground exfoliating powder is blended into a light but creamy product that is easy to spread but doesn’t drip down your chin into a mess. And because the grit is so fine, it actually feels gentler on the skin while still being very effective at it’s exfoliating duties. Do note that this product contains natural oils which I find to be enticing but may not be the right one if you insist on going absolutely oil-free. As for the “enzyme” factor? I see this more as a manual/physical exfoliator rather than a chemical one.

This enzyme scrub also has a somewhat masculine scent which doesn’t make for the most girly skincare experience but might sit well with the men sharing your bathroom quarters. However this hasn’t stopped me from loving it and I’ve actually moved this into my morning routine for a quick and refreshing start to my day.
