I am a lipstick girl through and through, I love the feel, look and overall appeal of lipstick but most of all I adore the beautiful colour that it shades your lips. Yet even simple lipsticks come in many variations, ranging in finish and texture but when I picked out the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in my search for an easy to use matte product it was like nothing I’ve used before.
Product: Soft Matte Lip Cream
Size: 6.5grams / 0.23 oz.
Price: $9-10 CAD
Availability: Drugstores nationwide
Would I repurchase: Yes but this is not for everyone.
Like it’s name says this is truly creamy in texture when you pull it out of the tube and with it’s soft doe foot applicator applies quick and easy to the lips. The consistency is similar to a light slightly whipped product, it’s not a paint nor does it leave a film on your lips. The mousse like lip cream smells very sweet if sniff carefully but otherwise isn’t overwhelming or lingering. Give it a good 10 seconds to dry and the smooth cream turns into a soft matte finish, somewhat of a cross between a satin and a powdery matte with plenty of colour payoff.
There’s a few things I really like about this formulation. For one the consistency and packaging makes this foolproof to apply in a few seconds and I love how precise I can be with the tip to shape my lip line. Secondly for a matte finish product this worked well with textured / wrinkled lips or as much it could for any product I’ve used before and because the sponge tip allows you to work the cream into every single crevice, it helps to minimize the “cracked” look when you talk or move and the colour isn’t properly smooth. Although the finish and shine changes as the lipstick settles onto the skin, I feel like this product never quite sets fully and does remain slightly movable.
Wearing NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in “Stockhom”
Unfortunately as a whole this isn’t very long lasting or transfer proof though it was very comfortable to wear (no heavy masky feeling) and lightweight. If you didn’t drink or eat, the colour had a good 3 hours or so wear time but as soon as it starts to smudge off it will make your lips look very dry and fade in an unpleasant patchy way. For those who are looking for a day to day matte lip option, I wouldn’t say this is the best choice though I do love the feel and the gorgeous colour payoff.
For me though, I’d still keep it around for photographs and short trips as it’s just so quick and easy to use without the fuss I usually have to go through when applying other similar matte products. No it’s not the most long wearing or hard working lipstick but I still think it has it’s merits depending on how you wear it.
