Daily Link: CHANEL No5. Story of an Icon

Here’s something new for you today, I’m going to starting a new segment called “Daily Link” where I can share with my cool findings of the day. Often times these will be videos or short films that catch my eye. As a Youtuber, I’m always on the site and there is always an abundance of things waiting to be discovered.

A few weeks ago I came across this mini documentary on CHANEL’s iconic No.5 perfume which takes you through the history, the creation and the mystery behind one of the world’s most recognizable beauty items. (Turn on the subtitles “CC” if you are feeling a little lost in translation.)

I’m not yet very well versed in long and complex world of perfumery but No.5 was a perfume that I’ve always wanted to try just because of the great allure surrounding it. When I finally got a chance to sample it however, it was not at all what I expected…on paper it had all the right notes but in person it just didn’t stun me at all. Perhaps it is a scent that needs to be appreciated with age, I will certainly make a point to go back to it every few years to see if I change my mind.

I personally do not really like the scent of Chanel No 5 either. It's too heavy for me. But as you say opinions may change over time, so maybe you'll end up liking it in a few years' time!

yes you should definitely try it again some time later! I got a bottle of this a month ago and I absolutely fell in love with it…I remember I used to dislike No.5 when I tried it on paper few years ago…but last month I decided to give it another try and it now smell amazing to me! Even the sales at Nordstrom didn't believe this one will fit me so she tried to talk me into trying Coco Mademoiselle on my arm. I stick with my choice and tried Chloé+Chanel No.5 and later she was amazed how well No.5 suits me too! Maybe your taste will change as time goes 😉
