While I was worrying that summer isn’t coming fast enough this year, VIVI’s August 2011 edition just came out. I’m not ready for end of summer yet!
[*runs around in circles panics*]
But here’s a few pictures I’ve cropped to share with you, it feels a little different than VIVI’s usual styling, could signal a new trend.
August’s issue features a familiar face Namie Amuro on the front cover.
Keep scrolling to see more!
One of the things you’ve gotta envy about Amuro is her luscious long long hair, for a while she was a shampoo advert model (Vidal Sasson Japan). She’s been sporting this type of long layered hair for a couple of years now. I’d love to know how she colours it AND keep it so healthy looking.
Now on to the fashion!
As I mentioned, I certainly feel there is a change in style for VIVI this season, the past 1/2yr or so we’ve been seeing alot of vintage inspired florals, retro 50s styling. I think that Augusts’ content reflects a slightly more mature outlook. For one thing, we’re seeing the models wearing more flat shoes rather than heels.
Here’s LENA showing you some trousers and how to wear them!
Another trend that’s coming on strong (not only in VIVI but also Popteen, Ranzuki etc) is the duo-tone hair. This time instead of the left right split, its more like high contrast ombre styling. You can wear it with bleached ends or I’ve also seen models with red dipped ends!
Here’s Ellie-Rose showing you some 70s-80s inspired looks.
Ellie-Rose and LENA wearing the ever so popular COLOUR BLOCKING trend but a little different than the American version. I love seeing how different countries/cultures interpret the same trend.
What you’re looking at is saturated solid colours, some may be a little paler (not neon) than what you may think with ColourBlock.
The safe route to go is either with complimentary colours (in paler hues) or work with monochromatic colours. So instead of thinking highlighter yellow with primary blue, think dark navy with mustard.
This section features some sale sections, this one from MURUA and I’m loving the full on 70s vibe with the wide leg crochet effect pants and large brim hat.
A bit more tailoring that usual, with crisp collared shirts and long skirt.
Nice to see that PLATFORM SNEAKERS are back in the game! I think these are fantastic and its nice to have some detailing like the studs. At 5’2 I could certainly use some extra inches.
Well that wraps up today’s fashion post.

Hope you found something that you like, I’ll be updating some fun fabric hauling soon so stayed tuned for that.
